The term “TestOps” describes a new trend in software development and testing. TestOps is a new testing practise that is altering the way quality assurance is done. It is a method of testing that ensures both speed and quality. Older testing methods worked in the relatively low complexity environments they were made for, but with the advent of big data and AI/ML, a new testing method is needed that works with the level of complexity these technologies bring.

So, what exactly is TestOps?

Put simply, TestOps is the system of managing and scaling test automation. The goal of TestOps is to maximize efficiency, speed, and application quality.

Let’s break this down.

Managing and scaling test automation comprises people, processes, and tests. By using four core components and three different testing types, TestOps can deliver innovation faster.

The four core components of TestOps are planning, control, management, and insights. By correctly utilizing these four components at the correct time and place, TestOps can drastically decrease the amount of QA time needed.

For TestOps to perform effectively, you need a number of factors.

Contributors like testers and developers need to work together to perform simultaneous coding and bug fixing.

Production data needs to be stored and analyzed correctly to allow developers and testers to work together and monitor problems efficiently.

Cross-platform solutions should be used to save time, so choosing an open-source solution like PyTest or Bugzilla is a good decision.

Clarity between testers and developers is important. They must know why they are testing the code while also maintaining a feedback loop for long-term automation.

Setting up a continuous & integrated framework that focuses on continuous builds, continuous validation, and continuous delivery improves productivity. By integrating this framework with DevOps, you can improve the transparency of the workflow and release the product quickly.

Setting up proper TestOps is a fairly long and complicated procedure, but the rewards are worth it, for both the company as well as the developers and testers involved. To get a clearer look into the underlying structure of QAOps and how it works, you can check out this brochure too.
